Weather Update - February 20
The plan for Thursday, February 20 is that USD 383 will be open – BUT with a 2-hour morning delay.
- The roads throughout the district are continuing to improve.
- We are working with the City of Manhattan to make sure streets around our schools are cleared off.
- We are concerned about the wind chill tomorrow morning. But it looks like once we get students at school, the temperature will continue to rise throughout the day
- Next week temperatures are in the 50s and 60s!
Schools
- School begins 2 hours later than normal.
- Middle and high schools: School day begins at 9:40 a.m. (instead of 7:40 a.m.)
- Elementary schools: School day begins at 10:45 a.m. (instead of 8:45 a.m.)
- Early Learning: Morning session will be canceled. Afternoon session will continue as normal. If students are there for full day sessions, the start time will be 10:40 a.m.
- Breakfast will NOT be served.
- Lunch will be served.

- Elementary schools: School dismissal at 3:45 p.m.

School Buses
- School buses will be operating.
- Bus routes will begin 2 hours later than normal.
- Example: regular pick up time is 6:45 a.m. -- 2 hour delay pick up time would be 8:45 a.m.
- Please ask your student what time the bus picks them at on a regular school day. Then add 2 hours to get the pick up time for tomorrow.
- It will help that it will be light outside for all routes tomorrow morning – that will increase visibility. Make sure riders are aware of their surroundings and are paying attention to vehicles.
- It is possible that buses will be running behind schedule. See #8!
- Inclement Weather Bus Stops will be in effect tomorrow. Those families will be communicated with separately.
- If your student uses a wheel chair, please make sure that there is enough space for the lift to come down.
- Make sure you are following the Here Comes the Bus app for up to date information on where your bus is at.
- Please encourage your student to dress warmly for the bus - hat, gloves, coat, long pants, etc. - even middle schoolers get cold!
Absences
- If you think it’s unsafe for your child to go to school, it is your responsibility to let your child’s school know. If you need to pick up your child early due to weather, follow the school’s checkout rules.
Snow/Ice
- Just like at your home, there is still a lot of snow and ice surrounding our school buildings and parking lots.
- Our maintenance and custodial teams have been working to remove as much as possible.
- Please be careful as you are driving and/or walking.
- Playgrounds will not be usable – there hasn’t been enough time for our maintenance team to remove snow on playgrounds.
Schedule Changes
- Your school will communicate with you and your student about changes to the school day schedule.
Please make sure that your student is dressed appropriately for the winter weather. Layers of clothing would be helpful - school buildings will probably be a little chilly.
