2 hour delay for USD 383 schools on Thursday, January 9
USD 383 will be open Thursday, January 9 – BUT with a 2-hour delay. We sent out a ParentSquare notification on January 2 concerning Winter Weather Plans. In that communication we outlined what a 2-hour delay would look like. Here is a recap:
School Buses
Absences
Snow/Ice
Please make sure that your student is dressed appropriately for the weather. Most of our buildings will be a little “chilly” tomorrow. They haven’t been used for almost 3 weeks!
We understand that some sidewalks are still snow/ice covered. We understand that some bus stops are right in front of a huge pile of snow. We understand that many main roads are 1 – 1 ½ lanes. But the snow will be here for a while and it’s time to get back to school!
- School begins 2 hours later than normal.
- Middle and high schools: School day begins at 9:40 a.m. (instead of 7:40 a.m.)
- Elementary schools: School day begins at 10:45 a.m. (instead of 8:45 a.m.)
- Early Learning: Morning session will be canceled. Afternoon session will continue as normal. If students are there for full day sessions, the start time will be 10:40 a.m.
- No breakfast will be served.
- Boys and Girls Club will not be open for before school care at elementary school sites.
- Lunch will be served.
School Buses
- Bus routes will begin 2 hours later than normal.
- There will be many bus stops that are piled up with snow. Riders – it is ok to stand in a driveway that is close to your regular bus stop.
- It will help that it will be light outside for all routes tomorrow morning – that will increase visibility. Make sure riders are aware of their surroundings and are paying attention to vehicles.
- It is possible that buses will be running behind schedule.
- Inclement Weather Bus Stops will be in effect tomorrow. Those families will be communicated with separately.
- If your student uses a wheel chair, please make sure that there is enough space for the lift to come down.
- Make sure you are following the Here Comes the Bus app for up to date information on where your bus is at.
Absences
- If you think it’s unsafe for your child to go to school, it is your responsibility to let your child’s school know. If you need to pick up your child early due to weather, follow the school’s checkout rules.
- ParentSquare absence reporting has been put on pause for tomorrow.
Snow/Ice
- Just like at your home, there is still a lot of snow and ice surrounding our school buildings and parking lots.
- Our maintenance and custodial teams have been working to remove as much snow as possible.
- Please be careful as you are driving and/or walking.
- Playgrounds will not be usable – there hasn’t been enough time for our maintenance team to remove snow on playgrounds
